Eighth annual SAVOR craft beer and food pairing experience a success

The art of pairing food and wine has long been understood and practiced by sommeliers and haute cuisine restaurants; a true art to be shared with those who understand the indisputable magic that happens when perfect food and wine combinations come together at a single table.

So it should be no surprise to those of us who appreciate the complexities and seemingly infinite flavor combinations found in craft beer, that an even greater potential for magic can happen when exquisite craft beer and expertly prepared dishes are paired.

The craft beer movement has dutifully shared this truth with the world, and this study, this alchmey of cuisine and craft, is now more evident than ever in the rise of the Cicerone – the sommelier of the craft beer world – and the increasing popularity of craft beers being served in the finest of restaurants, offered right alongside some of the biggest names in wine.

2015 American Craft Beer Week Editorial

This year, American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) will be celebrated from May 11th through 17th.

According to the Brewers Association, "in 2006, the Brewers Association decided to make American Beer Month (traditionally in July), into a week-long coordinated effort, timed before the busy summer beer season... This week has become the largest national effort focusing on American craft beer, and remains so today."

All around you, in American cities large and small, special craft beer events will be taking place. We encourage you to seek them out... to ask your local craft beer bar what they're doing to celebrate ACBW. Maybe check out a new craft brewery or two, or see what your local homebrewing club or shop has planned. Odds are, it's something awesome.

2015 Parkville Microbrew Festival

The 2015 Parkville Microbrew Festival at English Landing Park in Parkville, Missouri was a soggy affair. But that, in its own way, turned out just fine for the "seasoned professionals" in attendance, for whom the event truly was all about great beer, good music, and having a fantastic time with excellent people.

With the weather keeping the amateurs at bay, and the experienced festival-goers festooned in rubber boots, rain coats and umbrellas, everyone appeared to be having an excellent time despite the misty rain and mud. Good live music, reportedly good food vendors, and a staff that did all they could to keep the public areas from turning into giant mud puddles, we're going to call this event a complete success. We'll definitely be back again next year.

UPDATE: Though the rain kept our cameras from coming out too much, we did get a few fun photos to share. Please check them out in Matt Bechtold's 2015 Parkville Microbrew Festival album.

2015 Craft Brewers Conference

Popular seminars were jam packed with brewing professionals at CBC 2015 seeking knowledge.

The 2015 Craft Brewers Conference is underway. We'll be posting throughout the conference with updates via Matt Bechtold's profile.

Portland is treating us well, as always, but we'd like to extend a special thanks to Russell and Tucker of 23rd Street Brewing (Lawrence, KS) for getting this trip off to a great start. We are happy and thankful for their company and experience as they show us the ropes at our first CBC.

More exciting updates to follow via Matt's profile.

2015 Kansas Craft Brewers Expo

Thirty-nine excellent craft breweries from around the region and across the country put forth a wide array of delicious craft beers on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The unseasonably warm day brought many a smiling face out to the riverfront, to Abe & Jake's Landing, which once again proved to be an excellent venue for this event.

Now in its 4th year, the KCBE is still proving to be the hottest ticket in town -- selling out very quickly, and this time not just one session, but two. With such exponential growth, while maintaining its reputation for being well-organized and run, it's easy to call this year's Expo a complete success. The addition of a second session proved to be an excellent decision, as it not only allowed more people to attend, (disappointment at not getting a ticket being the number one complaint against the event in the past); it also spread the floor a bit, making it slightly less crowded and a bit more comfortable for attendees. The removal of the large brass sculptures and arches that once took up valuable floor space at Abe & Jake's helped as well.

2014 Great Taste of the Midwest

Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Home to great food, excellent beer, and delightful people who have every right to be proud of their beautiful and friendly city.

And once per year, since 1986, Madison has also been home to the Great Taste of the Midwest -- easily one of the best craft beer festivals in the United States. I must warn you, however... not only is it set in a beautiful park, in a beautiful city, it's also beautifuly BIG. In many ways, it's like the Louvre of craft beer -- there's absolutely no hope of seeing it all in one visit (and since you only get the one six-hour window per year, well, you get the idea). So you really just have to focus on the Real Ale Tent, the special tappings that happen every hour on the hour, the rare and interesting, the small and obscure breweries, those beers you love but just can't get "back home" or the previously unknown up-and-comers... the master works, if you will, that might literally be once-in-a-lifetime beers.

Thrillist.com and the Brew Dogs list 33 of America's top craft beer bars

Thrillist.com's Andy Kryza has teamed up with the Brew Dogs -- who will make their highly anticipated second-season premiere on the Esquire Network tonight (06.25.2014) -- to make their requisite annual list of "America's Best Craft Beer Bars." Refreshingly, the list isn't ordered -- it's merely a recognition of the best some of America's craft-beer-loving cities have to offer. If anything, the list snubs a few cities that are home to more than one amazing craft beer bar. Apparently 33 was the cut-off point?
